"About the 22d of October. 1 was

Mr. John A. Scott, Munuger of tho Hilo Sugar Company, gives the follow
ing wonderful record of tho working of tho NATIONAL CANE SHRED
DER, which was erected by their works at tho commencement of tho crop
" During tho past wcok tho Hilo Sugar Company's mill exceeded any of
its formor records by closing tho 125 hours grinding with an output of 300J
toiiB. This is fully 10 porceut moro than the best work of formor years.
"Tho thrco roller mill being 20 in. by 51 in. and tho two roller mill 80 in.
by CO in. Iho first mill doing this amount of work in an efficient manner
and with great oaso, compared with work on wholo cano, owing to thorough
preparation of tho cano by tho National Cano Shredder, recently erected by
the Company. ,
" And by its uso tho extraction has been increased from 3 percent to 5 per
cent on all kinds of cano, and in somo cases 80 percent has been reached ;
tho avcrago being 75 to 78 porcont, according to quality.

"Tho shreddor has been working day and night for seven months ani has
given mo bntiro satisfaction, having shredded during that time about sovonty
thousand tons of cano, aud a largo part of it being hard ratoons.
