SYMPATHY WITH HAWAII.
Resolutions in Two New England
Legislatures
Iu tho Legislature of Now Hamp
shire at Concord, tho following reso
lution was introduced and referred
to tho committee on national affairs:
Whereas, Hawaii, in her struggles
to establish a free and independent
republic iu place of a dospotie and
cruol monarchy, has wonderfully
succeeded, independent of the aid
and iu tha face of the prejudico of
crowned beads, and ovou of our owu
administration, and, believing, as wo
do, that their late struggle for free
dom, and their knock for admission
at our doors, should have received
our protection and kindly adoption
as the child who, under our mission
'aries and teachers, hno advanced
from a savage state to au intelligent
desire for our free institutions; and,
Wiieiuiah, Revolutions have arisen
and troubles nro liable to continue,
therefore,
Resolved, Bv tho House of Repre
sentatives, the Senato concurring,
that we. tho Legislature of New
Hampshire, extend to them our sym
pathy and oucoiiragemont, and do
siro our representatives at Washing
ton to uso every effort in their power
to aid them iu this and every time
of need.
Tho following resolutions were
adopted by the Connecticut Legis
lature at Hartford:
WiiEitEAs, Many of tho citizens of
Connecticut are personally interest
ed in tho financial and commercial
affairs of the Hawaiian group of
islands, aud,
Whereas, Wo boliovo that evory
true American citizen is interested
in sustaining a republican form of
government in those islands; there
fore, bo it
lletolved, That wo urge on our sen
ators and representatives in Cougross
to advocate and support all measures
and resolutions looking to tho sta
bility of Hawaiian government, and
that we deprocato tho withdrawal of
the American warships from Hono
lulu and, whilo heartily condemning
tho previous action of tho President
in his treatment of tho struggling
republic, wo commend his recent,
though tardy, actiou in dispatching
the warship Philadelphia to thoso
islands.
We protest against any abrogation
of tho Hawaiian treaty which will
give Great Britain a foothold or
claim upon any island of the Hawai
ian group, or which will allow any
submarino cablo that is not under
the supervision and control of the
United States or of tho Hawaiian
government to bo landed upon any
of saiu islands. .
Wo learn with profound regret
and indignation of tho sad death at
Honolulu of Mr. Charlos Carter, and I
wo extend to his bereaved family our I
sincorest sympathy.
Unsolved, That a copy of these roso-'
lutions be transmitted to each of our
senators aud representatives in Con
gress. Mr. Gunn introduced an amend
ment sympathizing with tho efforts
of all pooplo to free themselves from
tho yoke of oppression aud urging
our members in Congress to support
measures looking to the liberation of
lroland from the British government
and the sending of ships of war to
givo aid to any movement looking to
that enit, supplementing it, if need
be, with a suitable laud force to ac
complish that purpose. Tho amend
ment was tabled.
When Others Fail
Hood's Sarsaparilla builds up tho
shattered system by giving vigorous

ing an appetite and purifying the

any medicine iu existence. Take
only Hood's.

JL XX I O V vJ X example of a cheap and un
ctntered lens. You think yon get the same amount of relief
from a cheap glass, because it may have the same amount of
refractive power as the more costly. See where the above
lens focuses. See the scattering of rays. As much spheri
cal aberration in such glasses as there is abenation of tho
mind in an insane person ; yet this is tho general run of
glasses you buy cheap. How long will your senbitive eye
stand this strain? Why, until they are ruined entirely. Can
you afford to wear such gkr-ses, simply because they cost
you a little less than the petfcctV No, a thousand times, No.
1 You could not if they were given you with a bonus. "We

them away. But wc guarantee to lit every manner of com
