President Andrews Already Ap pointed n Dologato by tho Pre sident. Colorado Smixos, Colo , March 10. Tho following letter from Presi dent Andrews of the Brown Univer sity, has boon received by Professor GeorgoB. Turnbull, director of tho Colorado Springs summer school: , "Providence, R. I., March 4. 1893. ' Dear Sir: 1 find that you will have to count mo out thts summer. In addition to all tho uncertainties which wore in Bight when 1 wrote you I expect to bo in July either abroad at tho monetary conference, else using every niinilto in getting ready to go. In any event, 1 could not possibly use the timo necessary for a visit to your stato, as 1 should very much enjoy doing. Sincerely, "E. Benjamin Andrews." This letter is the first intimation from anything near an official t ourco ' that has been given that tho inter national monetary conforoncoii suro to nssemblo during the coming sum mer; and it is the first intimation that the presideut has already selected his appointees to that con ference. The letter of Dr. Andrews, howeer, sets at rest all doubts on the point that he is to be one of tho President's selections, and makes it certain that he will go to Europe this summer as one of the American delegates. Since Dr. A nil rows has bceu reappointed, it seems also pro bable that fonio of the other dele gates who went in 1892 will go again; and tho other two choices of the President tuny bo Mr. Camion, of tho Chase National Batik, and tho present din-ctor of the mint. This, however, is of coureo only a matter of inference. ASSAIL?. THE GOULD WEDJJINQ. Brooklyn Pastor Denounces tho Graze for Buying Foreign Titles. New York, March 10. The Ootild Castellaue wedding iudiroctlycamo in for somo sharp criticism in tho sormon of Rev. Cortland Meyers in Brooklyn to day. Ho said: "When tho dollar sign takes the place of tho , sign of love, it means the reign of misery. Wealth or position or any other poisonous mixturo turns tho ' gold of that ring into discolored brass. They sell wives in Chiua, but they sell them in America, too, and at a cheaper price. Even a falie French title will buy ono. It not only buys tho wife, but buys tho at tention of the world. 1 would not find a complaint against tho bar gain, because 1 do not know which side was cheated, but I do bring in a protest against this part of our world becoming an asylum in which 1 all nun and women become crazy over a single wedding of very com mon, ordinary people. If there was less of this insanity tlioro would be less 'conn toss' mauia." National Cane Shredder PATENTED UNDER THE LAWS OF THE HAWAIIAN ISLANDS. Mr. John A. Scott, Mumper of the Hilo Sugar Cum puny, gives tho follow ing wonderful record of the working of tho NATIONAL OANE SHRED DER, which was eicctcd by their works ut the commencement of tho crop just hurvbfctcd: "During the past week the Hilo Sugar Company's mill exceeded any of its former records by closing the 120 hours grinding with an output of 300 tons. This is fully 10 percent more than the bed work of former years. "Tho three roller mill being 20 in. by 134 in. and tho two roller mill .10 in. by GO in. Iho first mill doing this amount of work in an efficient manner and with great onto, compared with work on wholo cane, owing to thorough preparation of tho cane by the National Cane Shredder, recently erected by tho Company. "And by its use the extraction has been indented from 3 percent to 5 per cent on all kinds of cane, and in some eaten 80 peiccnt has been reached; tho average being 75 to 78 percent, according to quality. "I continue to find the incgitSB from Mircddcd cane better fuel than from whole cane. "Tho shredder has been working day and night for seven months and has given me entire satisfaction, having shrcdikd during that timo about sovonly thousand tons of cane, mid a large part of it being hard ratoons. "Tho shredder and engine require very little care or attention." UaTTlaiis ud specifications of thcce Slueddcrs may be seen at the office of WM. G.
