give his audience the benefit of a
descriptive lecture upon the subject
of "India, its climate and its in

Teddy Gamble, according to tho
San Francisco Examiner, is "a brave
American lad." It was this same
Gamble who, with a gang of toughs,
visited the house of Joe Fern, term
ed by the San Francisco paper as "a
resort on tho outskirts of Honolulu."
Mr. Forn, in an interview with a
Bulletin roportor, stated that Gam
ble aud his companions, camo
to his houso aud ho entertained I
them, giving them plenty to eat aud j
drink. Shortly aftor midnight they J
became boistorous and he requosted
them to leavo. Gamble showed his ,
"American spirit" by pulling out a
pistol aud firing it in tho air. Fern
did not wish to have trouble, al
though he could and would have
thrashed tho "kid," but didn't. Tho
toughs left the houso after a while.
The next day friends of Forn, who
had witnessed tuo uoodlumism oi
the men, prevailed on him to get
out a warrant for Gamble's arrest.
This was done, but later Forn agreed
to hush up tho wholo affair. "Toddy"
Gamblo and his confederates were
"loaded" with tanglo-foot. His
"loyalty to freo principles" is ac
counted for.

Ex-detective Wagner was arrested
early yesterday evening on Nuuanu
street for driving on the streets
without a light. Wagner was accost
od by a policeman and asked why
ho didn't have a light on his brake.
Wagner replied that ho was a de
tective and did not need a light.
Tho officer asked Senior Captain
Farkor for instructions and Wagner
was arrested. He was later released
on $25 bail.
At the Station Wagner protested
agaiust his arrest, claiming that he
was a dotective and should be ac
corded some consideration, but ho
was locked up all the same.
Ah On, a halfcaste, was also ar
rested duriuK the evoning. Ho was
riding a bicycle without a light.
The man had a light, but it was
underneath his coat, and ho refused
to show it to the policeman.
The case of Wagner was nolle
pro'd in the District Court to-day,
aud Ah Ou's trial was postponed to
a future date.

Advices from Jatuit states that
Mataafa and other Saraoan exiles are
in good health and are being well
treated by tho Germans. The only
food planted this past wet season
has been in the rebel districts, hence,
when a war breaks out again, the
Government supporters must rely
principally upon importing food for
their subsistence.
