Among tho converts from dissont
ia a certain parish wai au old blankot
weaver, who, whonuver particularly
touched by anything in the prayers
or tho sermon, could not refrain
from giving vent to his feelings by
such ejaculations as "Ainonl" "Halle
lujah I" etc.
The vicar had frequently spoken
to him about thi, aud (ho old man
had as frequently promised that ho
would try and give up the practice,
but as sure as the next Sunday oaine
his feelings wore curtain to get tho
bettor of him.
The congregation, at length be
coming impatient at this tver-recur-ring
disturbance to their devotions,
roquestod that the old man should
w forbiddcu to enter tho church.
Not wishing to resort to so summary
a measure, the vicar told him thai
if he would keep quiet for tho next
six Sundays ho would give him a
pair of boots.
All went well till the sixth Sunday,
when au unusually stirring sermon
was preached by some dignitary of
the church. The old man was no
ticed to fiJgot about aud mutter to
to himself a good deal during the
discourse. I ill at the close, being uu
alile to coulain himself any longer,
ho shouted, "Hoots or no beois, tho
Lord bo praised!"

Any one who has ever had an at- '
tack of inflammatory rheumatism
will rejoice with Mr. J. A. Stumm,
220 Iioylo. Heights, Los Angeles,
over his fortunate escape from a ,
siege of that distressing ailment.
Mr. Stumm is foreman of Merriam's
confectionery establishment. Some
months ago, on leaving the heated
work room to run across the street
on an errand, ho was caught out in i
the rain. The result was that when
ready to go home that night he was
unable to walk, owing to iuilamma
tory rheumatism. Ho was taken
homo, and, on arrival w as placed in
front of a good fire and thoroughly
rubbed with Chamberlain's Pain
Balm. During the evening and uight
he was repeatedly batheU with this
liniment, and by morning was re
lieved of all rheumatic pains. Ho
now takes especial pleasure in prais

always keeps a bottle of it in tho
