Only Nine Miles More to Build
A Contractors Push.
The 1:45 train from the 0. It. &
L. Co. station Saturday afternoon
carried with it Mr. 13. P. Dilling
ham and party of gentlemen on a
tour of inspection of the Waianae
extension of the roilroad.
Tho new line is complete up to
the six mile post beyond Ewamill,
and at the present rate of progress
should bo completed to Waianae
plantation before the end of June.
Tho track, so far as laid, presents
a delightful improvement over that
between Honolulu and Manana
the roadbed is especially solid and
without the sags and hollows no
ticeable in many new pieces of
track. Tho roadbed is of lime
stone and tho ties are of ohia wood,
tho material for both beintj obtain
able along the line of the road and
at a very much less expense than
if the ties had been brought from
the Coast. The rails are heavy
enough to stand any amount of
traffic that they may be called
upon to support.
Mr. IJickall, the contractor placed
in charge of the work, after Mr.
Feek left for tho Coast, is pushing
the work with phenomenal ardor.
He is now accomplishing nearly a
half mile a day, and at this rate
the road will be completed in a
very short time, and if nothing un
foreseen should happen it is tho
intention of Mr. Dillingham to
make tho day on which the last
spike is driven a memorable one in
the history of the Oahu Railway
At Emma Square to-night, com
mencing at 7:30, the following pro
gram will be rendered by the
