Captain Stott was the recipient
of tho following testimonial from
the saloon passengers on his arrival
"Deau Sir, Before leaving your
steamor, we desire to place on re
cord our appreciation of the way in
which we have been treated during
our voyage to Vancouver.
Unfortunately it has not been
devoid of unforeseen accidents and
delays, and while fully sympathiz
ing with you in tho anxiety and
extra work entailed on you and
your officers, especially the engin
eering staff, we would like to ex
press our thanks to you and to
them for the prompt manner in
which these difficulties were met.
We would also like to add that
wo greatly appreciate the kindness
and courtesy shown to us through
out by your good self and your offi
cers and the ship's staff.
Wishing you a pleasant return
voyage to Sydney, wo are, etc."
Tho voyage, although a pleasant
one, was not unattended with dis
aster, besides the mishap to the
machinery. The second day out
from Sydney, tho chief baker, John
son, committed suicide by jumping
overboard, while in a fit of tempor
ary insanity, caused by excessive
drinking. One of the quarter
masters broke his leg by a fall in
rough weather, and a saloon pas
senger from Honolulu named Log
gio became insano soon after leav
ing the Hawaiian Islands, and had
to bo carefully looked after during
tho remainder of tho trip.
