END OF THE STRIKE.
Const Sailors Loso Their Fight.
San Francisco, May 25. After
three months of turmoil and strife
and broken heads the strike of the
Coast Seamen's Union has ended.
The fatal blow wub struck yester
day afternoon when the boarding
bosses closed their doors against
the men of the union. With this
base of supplies thus cut off the
able seaman could hold out no
longer, but the boarding bosses had
to do something in self-defense.
Secretary Furuseth of the union
declined to discuss the situation,
but it is said that he has told the
men to ship whon and where they
can and for what they can get.
The Coast wages nrc now $25, and
the union has been fighting for $35
per month. As long as the ship
ping masters contented to board
the strikers the union men were
able to hold out .with varying suc
cess. But the recent' passage of a
law which prevented the water
front hotels from retaining a sail
or's clothes for board has proved a
hard blow to the union. A sailor
waiting for an advanco in wages
would run up a bill and then leave
the boarding boss in the lurch.
Theso gentlemen stood the pressure
to tho last limit and then went
over to the Shipowners' Associa

Berlin, May 22. The Govern

England's designs in annexing

to tho sea. A novel feature in the
action that is being taken, is that
Germany hopes for France's help
to accomplish her purpose.
