Tbe Annual ScmIoii Came to an Eml
Yeaterdny.
Tho doliborations of tho Con
grogationdl cterfey composing
tho Hdwaiian Evnngolical As
sociation for tho Boesion of 1896
oamo to an ond yesterday and
most of' tho mPmliers aro already
on thoir way homo. Among tho
proceedings of the latter part of
tho session was tho suspension of
Hev. M. Luteou, who is ovidontly
a prophet without honor in his
own country; tho passago of a
resolution asking tho Attorney
Gonoral to doviso ways and moans
for tho legal dirorce of thoso af
ilictod with leprosy; the passago
of a similar request to Prcsidont
Dole asking him to put an end to
Sunday target shooting, and reso
lutions of regret that Minister
Coopor should hnve allowed Sun
day band concerts.
A number of important matters
such as the titles to church lands,
support of impoverished churches,
Kahunaism, etc., wore referred to
tho Hawaiian 13oard, with power
to act.
Tlit ttnrtli I(piradurcd.
Eliseo Eeclus, tho Fronch geo
grapher, is out with a plan to
construct a globe, a facsimile of
the earth, on a scale that shall be
exactly ono-huudrcd-thousandth
part of the actual size.
The mucnitudo of the work will
bo appreciated when it is stated
that ;tho structure will bo 418 feet
in diameter, to that tho Bartholdi
statue, if erected inside of it,
would not reach to its center.
Thid enormous size is considered
to ho necessary in order to allow
of the surface being modeled with
minuto accuracy ond in true pro
portions, so as to show mountains
and valleys, plateaus and low
lands, in their actual relation to
tho earth's magnitude.
Evon on this largo scale tho
Himalayas would bo only about
threoand a half inches high, Mont
Blanc about two inches, tho
Grampians half an inch, while
the Palisades of tho Hudson, at
their highest points, would bo
about one-sixteenth of an inch
above tho lovol of tho rivor.
