year beginning Octobor 7th, 1895,

ron. Tho highest avarage for any
ono week was 31, tho lowest being
11, one rainy weok.
Mrs. Tarbell reports n marked
improvement in the children since
sho began, especially in tho item
of personal cleanliness. Childron

ing, and they have now learned
that they feol much bettor with
clean hands and faces and comb
ed hair. The oldor childron un
derstand quite well that they aro
free and happy only when thoy do
what is right. SIih finds marked
improvement in their play, and
indications of kindness uud gen
tleness aro moro frequent.
Mrs. Tarboll told an incident of
a stray little Hawaiian boy who
had wandered into the yard ono
day at recess. Ho was a dirty,
wilful creature who fcoomed to
loam tho sheets at will and to
attend no bchool. He came con
stantly for threo weeks from tho
day of his appeal unco, growing
daily moro interested. ' Suddenly
his father nppoared. Ho had been
searching in vain for him in tho
various schools of the city,and hav
ing found him, offered to take the
child away. Ho wns astonished
to learn that tho boy had conio
there regularly threo weeks and
said ho feared that Mrs. Tarboll
could not manneo such a bad boy
as this one. Mrs. Tarboll wished
tho child to remain, and sho has
no tumble with him. Ho is still
in school, a boy not boyond hope.
It may not bo generally known
that this Kindergarten is support
ed by Hon. Charles It. Bishop,
whoso endowment of the Associa
tion is by his request applied to
Owing to Mrs.Tarboll's resigna
tion after two years of faithful
work heio thoio is a vacancy in
thin Kindergarten. It is hoped
that her successor, whoever sho
may bo, will carry on tho work as
successfully as Mrs. Tarbell has

wns established two years ago by
Mrs. J. T. WalorhouBO and her
sister, Miss Pindor, who have also
done tho teaching for that time.
Now, however, tho Association
pays tho salary of a Hawaiian girl
who haB had some Kindergarten
instruction. There aro about 20
children who havocomo regularly,

marked improvement in tho child
