tho diverse race oharaoteristics
our Government needs to con

After tho Easter vacation Miss
Ozawn rosigned her position,
much to tho regret of tho Associa
tion by whom hor faithful Borvico
was most thoroughly appreciated,
llor placo has been temporarily
fdled by Miss Nollio Kahuila of
Kawaiahno Seminary, who in her
efforts has boon ably seconded by
Mm, So,a young Japanese woman.
Miss Nollio has had a gravo re
sponsibility thrust upon hor, but
in her toaching she has shown
good discipline, no less than great
kindness and sympathy. : Mrs.
So can speak enough English to
act as interpreter, and sho

visits to the paronts. It
may bo noted in passing that
tho increased and orderly attend

tho effect of tho Kindorgirton on

provided for the support of tho
Japanese Kindergarten, and thoy
have established a primary school
into which tho graduates from tho
Kindergarten may go. bis chil

It has boon thought that tho
host development or tho Japanese
Kindergarten could bo secured by
providing a Japaneso director,
and it is hoped that an experienced
Japaneso Kindergortnor who re
ceived hor training in America
may bo procured foi this Kinder

dergarten was moved to its pres
ent homo on Miller street, which
offers moro commodious quarters
than tho old room. Even now it
is crowded, eight children being
Boated at ono tablo which should
accommodate four only. Eager
littlo would-be Kindergarten pu
pils are turned from the doors,
because there is no placo for

assistants this year aro Miss Hat

Many of the Portuguese chil

born into comfortable circum
stances, and their parents through
ignorance uud lack of time show
them very littlo sympathy. A few
of tho parents aro improving on
tho timo-hnnored nmthod of disci-
f)lino by whipping, and aro being
ed to find that tho Kindergarten
law of fovo does not mean mis
rule. Portuguese children are quick
aud nctive, helpful to tho teacher,
offeotioimlo and grateful for tho
least kindness. Miss Pircs also
roporis improvement in their

the Kindergarten work to take up
teaching that is leas remunerative
but not loss interesting to hor, in

work as a Kindergnrlnev and her
