The convention adjourned on tho 11th until tho next raorniug to nominate a candidate for Vice Presidont. J. It. McLean of Missouri is favorite tor tho second place. POLICY. The platform roiiflirms allegi ance to justice nnd liberty which tho Democratic party has support ed since Jefferson's timo. Itis unalterably opposed to mo nometallism and demands tho free and unlimited coinage of both gold aud silver at tho present legal rutio of 1G to 1, without waiting for tho aid or consent of nuy other nation. It proposes tho issue of intor-esting-beariug bonds in times of poaco in tho United States, and condemns tho traffic with banking syndicates. It holds that- tariff dutioB should be levied for the purposes of rovonuo only. It opposes any furthor changes in tho turilF laws until tho mouoy question is settled. It favors tho admission of Now Mexico and Arizona, recommends that tho Territovy of Alaska bo granted a delegate in Congress, extends sympathy to tho people of Cuba, opposes lifo tonuro in the public sorvices, nnd declores it to bo tho unwrit ten law of tho Republic, establish ed by custom and usage of 100 years, and sanctioned by tho ex amples of tho greatest and wis ost of those who founded and have maintained the Republic, that no man should bo eligible for a third term of tho presidential office.
