Secret Signs for IilmUfyiiiK Wheel
In Cute ofTIitft.
A' simple dovico for cbncofiling
a privuto mark on one's wheel is
suggostod by John 1). Cnrroll,
ehiof detective of a wheelmen's
insurance company. Mr. Carroll's
jilan is thnt ovory ownor of a bi
oyolo should havo n private mark
upon his whcol, but so concealod
that tho closest scrutiny by ouo
who does not know it will fnil to
discover it. Instead of a
mark upon tho saddlo or sad-
naturally look for it, ho suggests
that a portion of the enamol,
about one inch squaro, bo scrapod
from the franio of tho machine.
After all traco of tho onaniol has
boon removed, apply a coating of
greasi and with a pointed piece
of teol, dipped in carbolic acid,
draw tho initials or private mark
through tho greaso. Tho acid
follows tho marking of tho steol
point, wliilo tho greaso keops it
After allowing tho acid to oat
into the tubing the grease can
bo rubbed oil and the mark or
initial, shows as plainly as if cut
iuto the steol framework. One
coat of omiiiiol will completely
hide all trace of tho mark. Should
any quebtion as to tho ownership
of the wheel arise tho ownor
could by simply scratching off
the enamel which covered his
mark at once prove- his claim.
