In Judgo do la Verguo's Court
this morning the trial of George
Houghtailing has been tho main
attraction. Ilo is this timo
charged with violating Section 1,
Chapter 5G, Laws of 188G, in Ho
nolulu, during one week prior to
and including the 20th of Septem
ber, more particularly on tho
20th, by exposing for salo certain
spirituous liquors without having
a license to sell tho same, in a
certain house in Honolulu.
For tho defeneo a plea of twico
in jeopardy was entered by Charles
Creighton, tho defendant's attor
ney, and overruled. Tho defend
ant, under tho instiuctions of his
attorney, declined to plead and
tho court ordered a plea of not
guilty entered.
Two witnesses were examined
for the prosecution, which closed
its case at noon. Tho case will
bo continued this afternoon.
