HOW TO CURE SEASICKNESS.
Thl Cnplenaunt I'enlure of nil Orenn Voy
nco ObTlateil by Itroin'ile.
Tho now American remedy Is palled
'Iroiiildlzatiou." This Is n condition,
nol n theory. Bromidizntiou must lo
begun sovcnil days beforo sailing, con
tinued sovcral tlnys after, nud sometimes
through tho voyage. In this cuso it de
fies both wind nml weather,
TOfromitlo of sodinui is preferred for
tho purpottO to bromido of potassium,
becau&o of tho sodium being milder and
Inoro ncoeptablo to tho stomuch. A reli
able) physician, who has used tho bro
mides extensively in his praotico for
years, asserts that tho qunutity neces
s.ary to ward off an ut tack of Beusickuutjs
is not in the hast harniful.
Tew adults ill oxperieuco tho slight
est inconvenience from a 80 grain doso
of tho bromido of sodium three times u
day.
Tho fymptoms of bromidizatlon, when
taken in suilleient quantities to prevent
seasickness, aro n slight drowsiness and
n heaviness of tho limbs. Tho drowsy
feeling quickly wears off when the mind
becomes inteiested, and tho languor of
the limbs is merely n slight sensation of
stiffness if tho patient should ris,o ab
ruptly from a sitting ton standing posi
tion. It is pleasant to know nlso that I
this bromidizutiou docs not lutcrfero
with tho subject's relish for food.
Seasickness does not como primarily
from tho stomach. Tho nau&ca and
Yomiting are dependent upou a func
tional disturbance of tho central nervous
system, and upon this theory is based
Jjio uso of tho bromides. Any method
that will servo to obtund tho sensorium,
render it amesthctic and nnsusecptiblo
to slight molecular changes, is u rational
method for preventing seasickness. If
iho bromido of sodium is taken regularly,
in timo and in proper proportions, in
nearly every inrtuneo tho voyager will
bo exempt from sickness, but tho pros
pective voyager should by all means
commit a physician as to tho proportions
to be taken in liisoi her individual case,
