It is suggested that on January
1,1900, a new division of tho years
into thirteon mouths be instituted.
It is claimed that this is not so
proposterous as most people would
bo likely to consider it at tho first
thought. If such a division wore
imule fh fi'ntt wolve monthb would
havo just twenty-eight days, or
four weol;s ench, and tho new
month twenty nine, to make 3G5,
aud thitty in leap years. After a
fow days there would bo no need
to rofor to calendars, as tho same
day of tho week would havo tho
same date through tho year.
If January 1 wore, say Monday,
ovory Monday would bo the 1st,
8th, 15th and 22d; evory Tuosday
the 2d, 9th, lGth and 23d, and bo
on through the year. Tho changes
of tho moon would be on about
tho sr.mo dates through the year,
aud many calculations like inter
est, dates of maturing notes, East
er Sunday and many other impor
tant dates would be simplified.
Although tho present goneration
would have to figure new dates
for birthdays and all legal holi
days oxcopt Now Year's would bo
on different dates, yot tho gain
would bo more than the Iobb, as
that would bo pernianont and the
objections trifling. Scientific
