HOW TO CLEAN STEEL.
Also tu Itrimivn Ituit nml Get n Good
If tho stoel is only tarnished, nlmost
tho best thiuK to upply is rottenstouo
and Ro.ip ; It should bo laid on with a
?oft flannel quickly and firmly, mid im
mi'diiitely bo polished with a leather;
but if theto aro auy signs of rust on tho
articles, try tho following: Dissolve
one-fourth of un ounce of camphor in
nearly half a pound of lard ; when tho
latter is quito melted curefully renioo
all tho scum, and when nearly cold and
set, mix with tho lard as much black
lead ns will give it a rich iron color.
Hub tho ornaments with this mixture
and leuvo them for 24 hours. Polish
them with nn old linen rag and a soft
brufch Unit will go into tho crevices. If
all tho fenders, etc., wero rubbod overy
other day with a leather, and onco n
fortnight with a paste, thero would
novcr bo any reason for spending much
tlmo over them. This applies to brass,
which looks so remarkably well when
it is cared for, and so object ionnblo if
allowed to remain tarnished. Lemon
Juice, putz pomade, eta, aro good occa
sional remedies, but tho leather fre
quently uted is tho best in tho long run.

This may bo ivpe.uiil, If iicccsfurj,

How to Manicure Your Own Nails.
A woninn is judged by her noils, ns a
man's st.uidiii(; und profc-sion uro lcnown
by his hat. Of course u younu; woman
from any of tho tnuniouro establishments
will do your nails for tho consideration
of fl, but if you consider this too ox
jiousive, or find it inconvenient to wnd
for her nlwiiys, you can attend to your
own .nails just ns well, and with an
outlay of $2. 00 havo enough powder
ongaliue, ciiitry boards, pasto and or
nngo sticks to bust for u long timu.
Tho fingers should bo held for ten
minutes in hot wutir in which a small
mixture of rosewntor nnd grated Mnp
has been poured, then dried carefully,
and thocuticlopuhhed back, never cut,
uutil tho half moon at tho bottom of tho
nail, which is considered quito a woik
of beauty, is exposed.
Tho nulls aro then fchnped, points bo
ing considered by tho ultr.i critical very
bad tusto. Tho oval shupo reigns su
preme. A bit of powder is applied, then tho
pink pahto, moro powder, nnd tho fln.t
polislier is used. A very exaggerated,
polish is not desirable After the bauds
nro well washed tho second polisher,
which must not bo touched with tho
powder, is used. If thero nro any htalns
under tho nails, tlioy may bo removed
by tying n bit of cotton on tho orange
stick and ii)oistcniug it with ongalinu.
