probability being that 100,000,000 of
yoars is tho limit of geological history,
and that prior to that timo the earth's
Bnrfoco was unfit for tho maintenance
of nnlmal or vegetable life. Onr knowl
edge is not sufficient to fix tho period
wbeu tho earth became habltablo or
whon it shall ceaso to bo so. Tho or

fore it is only a speculative question so
far. Hugh Miller says: "As certainly
