most any barber, and ladies sometimes
massaged their own heads successfully,

have restored what at first appeared
hopeless cases of almost total baldness
of long standing by daily massago and

tho scalp. The tincture of Cintharidcs,
diluted to suit tbo condition of tho in
dividual scalp, is very useful when the
loss of hair is duo to inactivity of the
circulation and tho wasting of tho glands
and iiair follicles.
Now dandruff is caused by tho omio-
sito condition of tho ccalp cr tho over
secretion by the glands. It is to tho
scalp what pimples aro to tho faco. In'
theso cases the hair follicles aro clogged
witii too much grease, tho simplest and
most euectivo remedy being a thorough
shampooing once a week and daily mas
sago of tho scalp to aid tho circulation.
Washes containing alcohol, ammonia,
borax and carbonate of potassium aro
good, but I have never had a caso that
would not yield to shampooing und
massage.
Sonio ladies havo groat faith in the
old fashioned idea of giving tho hair
100 strokes with the brash night and
morning. I do not hesitate to tell them
it is a fake. A good healthy head of
hair can be kept glossy as well without
the brush as with it. All that is neces
sary is to keep it clean and well combed.
Another fact about keeping tho scalp
and hair in perfect condition which
many ladies disregard is the fact that
the hair should bo allowed to fall loose
over the shoulders whenever circum
stances permit and shonld nover bo con
fined at night or during tbo hours of re
