Have You
An Account?
This is a serious question,
ono at which some folks take
offense, ycfc salesmen are under
ino necessity 01 asking it.
Somo folks deal near home,
settle infrequently, never in
vestigate to sec whether they
pay inoro than thoy should and
too often allow their accounts to
go long over due. If you don't
care what the family expenses
are it's a poor way to do if you
want to leave your children in
aflluent circumstances when
you aro gone. Now it is quitt
an advantage to have an opei.
account at a well-known house,
who can execute your ordci
promptly. Often persons say
they don't want an account and
will pay in a few days. But
wo cannot keep memoranda of
charges; it isn't safe or good
business. The stock found in
ordinary stores is usually' stale,
uninviting and inferior, while
the stock in our store is turned
so frequently and so carefully
watched that it is at all times
fresh. Our stock in trade con
sists of the luxuries and deli
cacies from overy civilized na
tion. Send for our catalogue
and prices and note tho variety
offered. Telephone us 240.

GOLD AND SILVER PLATING.
A rroecM Tlmt la Drurrllirtt na Simple by
a rrofrilonl.
Tlio following is a very simplo method
for gold and silver plating! Tnko mi
ounco of nitrato of silver, which ii
mndo m follows: Ono ounoo of flno sil
ver, ono ounco nttrio auid, pne-hnlf
ounco water. Put tho stiver Into a Flor
enco flask, then pour in tho' acid and
water. Place tho (lost on theWnd bath
for a fow moments, taking oaro not to
apply too much heat, and as soon ns
chemical action becomes violent rcmovo
tho flask to a cooler ploco and allow tho
notion to go on until it nearly Blacks,
when, if thero is any silver still remain
ing, tho flask may bo placed on tho bath
again until tho silver disappears. If tho
ncid employed is weak, it may.bo neces
sary to mid a Httlo mora Tho red f times
formed when chemical action is going
on disappear when tho acid has douo its
work.
Tiio nitrato of silver formed dnriug
tho ubovo operation should bo poured
into a porcelain capsulo and heated un
til a pelliclo appears on tho surface
when it may bo set asido to crystallize
Tho uncrystnllized liquor should bo
poured from tho crystals into another
vessel aud heat applied until it has
evaporated suMoicntly to crystallize.
Thon you havo nitrato of silver. Tako
an ounco of nitrato of silver, dissolvo in
a quart of distilled rainwater. When
thoroughly dissolved, throw in a fow
crystals of hyposulphite of soda, which
will at first form a brown prcclpitato,
but which becomes redissolved if enough
hyposulphite has been added. Thero
must bo present a slight excess of this
salt Tho solution is now complete.
Tako a sponge, dip it in the solution
and rub it over tho work, to bo plated.
A solution of gold may bo made in
tho samo way and' applied as described.
A concentrated solution of cither gold
or silver may bo used for work that has
boon worn off by applying it with a
camol's hair brush and touching it with
n strip of zinc. Tho writer has used this
method with tho most satisfactory suc
cess. Uho gold or silver used in making
must bo perfectly flno. Jowolers' Cir

Tho Goddird Lectures. The second

have given an order for ouo.
King Bros, will give you some
thing infinitely better and cheap
