SHE WOULD NOT TALK.
tlin Reporter Hearil All About the
Trnnbln In Tin Can Court.
Thcro had been trouble of soton kind
In tho tenement houso dlguiflnl by tho
namo of Tin Con Court, and a reporter
had called on a certain Mrs. McSniffln,
who, ho had been told, know all about it.
"Yes," she said, "I do know all
about it, but I proposo to keep. what I
know to myself, unless I'm subpoenaed
to appear in regular court, and then I'd
bo obliged to tell, but until that timo
comes I lmvo nothing' to say, for I know
just how easy it is for ono to get Into
trouble by letting one's tonguo run
when it's better to havo bwn still, and
I ain't ono to mnko troublo in tho court
anyhow, for tho land knows thcro's
plenty to do it without mo, and if somo
of that troublo making class knew, as
I know, that it was Mrs. Billkins who
began' tho fuss with Mrs. Cratty by
passing insinuations on Mrs. Cratty's
'daughter Mondic, becauso her young
man up and jilted her for Mag Murphy,
tho young lady as is table girl at Put
Doolan's restaurant I say that if cer
tain persons I might mention but won't,
kuowcci this they'd up and blab it fast
enough, but I ain't ono o' that kind,
Mrs. Cratty boing a good friend o' mine
and a perfect lady, if she did hit Mrs.
Billkins over tho head with a beer bot
tle, as who could blame her whon Mrs.
Billkins said what sho did about Mrs.
Cratty's own flesh and bloodr I'vo noth
ing agin Mrs. BillklnB, and many tho
drawin of tea I'vo loaned her and am
ready to do it ng'in, but I can't say
that I'm so very sorry sho got tho worst
of it when sho oomo at Mrs. Cratty
with a Are BhovcL I ain't ono to ap
prove o' ladies fightin, uml I never lit
any ono in my lifo, but I did admirn
tho way Mrs. Cratty handled Mrs. Bill
kins, and Mrs. Cratty a llttlo mite of a
woman, not bigger 'n a pound of soap,
and it proved what I'vo always said,
that theso littlo, pale, bluo eyed, light
haired and light complected women was
awful when you onco got 'em started.
If tho patrol wagon hadn't oomo just
whon it did, I'm thiukin it'd gono a
good deal worao than it did with Mrs.
Billkins. But, then, I've nothing to
say about tho matter unless it comes in
to court. If others in this tenement
want to get into troublo talkin 'bout the
affair, they kin. Tho tortures of tho in
quisition couldn't draw a word about it
from ma" New York World.

Uncertainties nud n Cerlnluty
Tho attention of tho public is
now fully occupied ami divovlud
in tho consideration nnd discus
sion of soveral important current
and prospective happonings. An

ciprocity threatened; tho coming
of the Naniwa, nud her mission
after arrival; tho outcome of the
war botween Greece and Turkey
and, whether or no, all Europe
will ovontually becouio involved;
tho settlement of the qtarantino

conjecture aud uncertainty, and
while opinions aro freely offered,
none can accurately foretell the
outcome of any of theso matters.
Nevertheless, it is becoming more
apparent, as each day passes, that
Buffalo and Hoffbrau aro the
favorite brews, and it is gratify
ing that assurance is giveu that
regular shipments of these whole
some and strengthening bovor
ages can be depended upon, and
that thay will, as heretofore, be
dispensed at tho Royal, Pacific

that the interchangeable chock
system is au established fact.
