This is a serious question,
one at which some folks take
offense, yet salesmen are under
tho necessity of asking it.
Some folks deal near homo,
settle infrequently, never in
vestigate to see whether they
pay more than they should and
too often allow their accounts to
go long over due. If you don't
care what tho family expenses
are it's a poor way to do if you
want to leave your children in
allluent circumstnnces when
you aro gone. Now it is quite
an advantage to have an open
account at a well-known house,
who can execute your order
promptly. Often persons say
they don't want an account and
will pay in a few days. But
wo cannot keop memoranda of
charges; it isn't safe or good
business. Tho stock found in
ordinary stores is usually stale,
uninviting and inferior, while
tho stock in our store is turned
so frequently and so caiefully
watched that it is at all times
fresh. Our stock in trade con
sists of the luxuries and deli
cacies from every civilized na
tion. Send for our catalogue
and prices and note the variety
offered. Telephone us 240.
We supply all nationalities.

Tbo moving of an ordinary briok
building lias always boon con
sidered a feat at loaetof more than
pasBing interest, but the trans
portation of a brick ohimnoy- with
out acoident or damage, oror a
considerable strotch of uneven
ground, was recently accomplished
at Mannanbt, Shelter Island,
Suffolk. County, N. Y.
The chimney, says the Scienti
fic Amorican, is 85 feet high and
7 foot squaro at tho base, with
outer and inner walls 8 inches
thick and weighs nearly 100 tons.
It was moved about 950 feet over
very rough ground and quito a
gnulo, both up and down. Tho
cradlo rested on two skids gtonsed
on tho under sido and sliding on
groaced blocks. The purchaso
used was a cliuin capstan, and one
horse at 180 fold, and the time
occupied in loading and moving
was only nino days, with tho
labor of only four men. Tho
ohimnoy was placed on its now
foundation without a particle of
harm. This is the socond ohim
noy of tho above description
moved by tho same contractors.
The first one was 52 feet high, at
liridgouampton, and in both cases
the work was completed without

Tbo Blaokwall tunnel, which
was completed at a cost of XI,-
250,000, was formally opened by
tho Frinco of Wales in tho namo
of the Queen on May 22 last.
Tho Blaokwall tunnel connects
the two sides of tho river Thames
at Black wull, six miles east of the
Towor Bridge in London, and was
built to relieve the congestion on
tho oity bridges, which had be
come too greatly crowded.
The work was begun in 1891.
Tho tunnel is 6200 feet long, of
which about one-fifth is under tho
river and the rest is in the ap
proaches. It is twenty-seven foet
in diameter, and is said to be the
widest tunnel in existence. It is
eighty feet below high-water mark,
and the faot that it bad to be
constructed in loose, gravelly
ground made tho undertaking a
very difficult one.

Moral : You can't get tho best out of anything, unless
the best is in it ; and the best has to be put in before it
can be taken out. Now, we have a rule to test those
sarsaparlllas with a big "best" on the bottle. "Tell us
what's put in you and we'll decide for ourselves about
the best." That's fair. But these, modest sarsaparlllas
say: "Oh I we can't tell. It's a secret. Have faith in
the label.". . . Stopl There's one exception; one sar
sapirilla that has no secret to hide. It's Ayer's. If you
want to know what goes into Ayer's Sarsaparilla, ask
your doctor to write for the formula. Then you can
satisfy yourself that you get the best of the sarsaparilla
argument when you get Ayer's.
