Quoon Stroot, Honolulu,
This is a serious question,
ono at which some folks take
offense, yet salesmen- are under
tho necessity of asking it.
Some folks deal near homo,
settlo infrequently, never in
vestigate to sec whether they
pay more than they should and
too often allow their accounts to
go long over due. If you don't
care what the family expenses
aro it's a poor way to do if you
want to leave your children in
alHuont circumstances when
you aro gone. Now it is quite
an advantage to have an open
account at a well-known house,
who can execute your order
promptly. Often persons say
they don't want uu account and
will pay in a few days. But
wo cannot keep memoranda of
charges; it isn't safe or good
business. The stock found in
ordinary stores is usually stale,
uninviting and inferior, while
the stock in our store is turned
so frequently and so carefully
watched that it is at all times
fresh. Our stock in trade con
sists of the luxuries and deli
cacies from every civilized na
tion. Send for our catalogue
and prices and note tho variety
offered. Telephone us 240.

Tho lloviow of HoviowB litis
rather startled tho English world
with tho nowa that the Quoen re
gards tho whole commemoration
coromony with koon personal dis
liko. She is very old, and to drive
for six miles through crowdod
streets in tho midst of a porpetual
roar of cheering, to which she
must listen quite passivoly or ut
terly exhaust hor strength in at
tempting to acknowledge it, is an
ordeal from which any old lady
might woll shrink. But hor Min
isters, thoroin representing tho
unanimous feeling of her subjects,
havo decided that tho Bncrifico is
ono to which slio ought to submit;
and tho Qneon, now qb over loyal
ly subordinating hurowu personal
wishes to what is regarded as tho
public welfare of tho realm, will
tako her part in the great proces
sion. Her Majesty, howovor, has
adhered to one thing. Slio abso
lutely refuses to leave her car
riage. The clergy do not liko the

that tho Queen should1 enter tho
walls of the consecrated building.
Bat Her Majesty is firm, and the
services, therefore, will tako plaoo
in the open air, much to the scan
dal of niauy Ritualistic ecclesias
tics. Hitherto, she has worship
ed under the dome of an Anglican
Cathedral or tho Presbyterian roof
of a Scottish kirk, but this year for
tho first time, says Mr. Stead, she
will take part with her people un
der tho broad, bluo sky, and will,
by that simple act, officiate as rep
resentative of tho church universal
in a fashion that Iiiih hitherto been
impossible to any Pope or Caesar
of them all.
Uncertainties and n Certnlntjr.
Tho attention of the public is
now fully occupied and divortod
in tho consideration and discus
sion of several important current
and prospective happenings. An
nexation, as yet uusecure, Re

of the NaniwH, anil her mission
after arrival; tho outcome of the
war between Gruei'o and Turkey
and, whether or no, all Europe
will eventually become involved;
the settlement of the quarantine
squabble are all themes of much
conjecture and uncertainty, and
while opinions aro freely offered,
none can accurately foretell tho
outcome of any of those matters.

Ilest saraaparillas." When you think of It how contradic
tory that term Is. For there can be only one best In anything one
best tanaparilla, as there Is one highest mountain, one longest
river, one deepest ocean. And that best sarsaparilla is 7 ....
There's the rub I You can measure mountain height and ocean
depth, but how test sarsaparilla? You could If you v. ere chemists.
Dut then do you need to test it? The World's Fair Committee
tested it, and thoroughly. They went behind the label on the
bottle. What did this sarsaparilla test result in ? Every make
of sarsaparilla shut out of the Fair, except Ayer's. So It was
HH that Ayer's was the only sarsaparilla admitted to the World's

anything that was not the best. And as the best, Ayer's Sarsa
parilla received the medal and awards due its merits. Remember
the word "best" Is a bubble any breath can blow; but there are
pins to prick such bubbles. Those others arc blowing more
"best sarsaparilla" bubbles since the World's Fair pricked the
old ones. True, but Ayer's Sarsaparilla has the medal. The
pin that scratches the medal proves It gold. The pin that pricks
the bubble proves it wind. We point to medals, not bubbles, vpp
when we say : The best sarsaparilla is Ayer's. (fWi
