sugar; Hanaloi 1000 bags paddy;
Waimha 590 bags paddy. The
steamer Mikahala was discharg
ing Kolna freight and tho steamer
Koauhou was at Waimea discharg
ing coal. Fine weather on Kauai
coaBt, no rain and light wind.
The ORM8S Mariposa, com
mander Hayward, docked at
Oceanic wharf last night at eight
o'clock with the following voyage
memoranda furnished by Purser
Walton: Left Sydney, Aug 2,
at 4 p m; arrived Auokland, Aug
6, at 3 p m; left Auckland, Aug 7,
at 2 p m; arrived Apia, Aug 11, at
2 p m; left Apia, Aug 11, at G p in;
arrived Honolulu, Aug 18, at 7:30
p m. The Mariposa brought a
small lot of 978 packages of mer
chandise, 13G cases of mullot and
82 boieB of fruit for this market
including some crates of Samoau
oronges which will bo quickly dis
posed of as the market is in need
of them. The Mariposa loft at
noon today with G500 bags of
sugar and 1000 bunches of
bananas for tho coast.
The British ship Star of Bus
sia that arrived in Sun Francisco
a few weeks ago from Antwerp
had a terrible experience in u
storm beforo she got fairly clour
of tho English channel. She left
Antwerp February 20 and on
March 1 was twenty milot? south
west of Start Point. A heavy
gale began to blow from the west
ward and a tremeudoub sea utosu.
The ship was thrown on her beam
ends and tho cargo shifted. Tt
looked as if she would founder,
but Captain Roberts jettisoned
300 barrels of cement and righted
the vessel again. The wind con
tinued in a fury and the lower
foretopsuil aud the loieiupuiast
staysail woro carried away. The
heavy sea kept beating over tho
decks and damaged tho bulwarks
ana deckhouse. Tho orono of tho
upper maiutopsail yard was car
ried away,. and as it was hold by a
patent arrangement, tho maintop
sail was under a roef tho remain
der of tho voyage, it being impos
sible to get the yard moro than
half way up.
