about six miles wide. Tho cliffs

at anchor, right in tho middlo of
tho iloot of warships, troopships,

Thoro is quito a foreign ileet there.
As wo woro coming to our anchor

sailors. They flew tho German ilag
at half mast, and woro probably
going to bury a sailor at Cavito.
After anchoring wo heard tho
news, viz.: That tho emoko we
saw was from part of Manila
burning: tho insurgents fought a
battlo with tho Spanish and sot
part of tho town oblnzo but wero
afterward repulsed, the' havo a
fight most evory day, our boys aro
strongly entrenched near tho city;
we expect to land tomoirow; that
Sampson had won a big battlo;
that Watson was going over to
Spain; that tho Spanish Cadiz

Hawaii was probably annexed.
Hurrah 1 Thoro aro five Spanish
gun boats sunk in sight of us, with
