. Dr. A. R. Kowat, vc-tcrinary sur
geon, makes the following statement
in the the Hawaiian published this
Filariosis is again quite prevalent
among the canines of Honolulu, sev
eral cases having come to my notice
in the last month. This disease is
produced by a parasite (the FHaria
Immites) that makes the heart and
larger blood vessels its habitat.
When ftillymatureditisfrom twelve
to eighteen inches in length, very
white and no thicker than a coarse
linen thread. Although the origin,
course and symptoms of this di
sease are fully understood, the life
history of the parasite producing it
is not, which makes preventives
treatment somewhat unreliaWe.
However, 1 believe pure coolfed
food, feJ from clean dishes, and
pure (even filtered) water would al
most positively prevent it. The cut
herewith is of the heart of a dog
showing the Filaria.
