And call It something, we're quite
sure there's no false label on It ; quite sure,
indeed, that It Is just what we call It, or
we wouldn't expect to hold our position In
the trade very long.
We haven't labored steadily well on
toward the quarter century mark to reach
the top in our line of business just to fool
away that good name we prize so much
on a game of chance like misrepresenting
an article of food.

Washington, Jan. 17. Tho War
Investigation Commission today
decided to mako public the amond
od slalomont filed by Commissary
General Eagan yeslorday.
Tho Commission permitted tho
representatives of tho press to
read tho statement and it was
formally announced to tho news
papermen that General Ecgan
had oliminatod all objectionable
statements, and thorafore the
document would bo' accepted ofli
cially by tho commission aB evi
donee. Ah already stated tho
changes made by Ucneral .Lagan
in tho document are. mainly in the
liuo of excision, yet the phraseolo
gy has also been altered fre
quently. Ho refers to Goneral Miles as
tho senior genoral, Nelson Miles,
and while keeping strictly within
tho line of propriety in the juclg
inont of the commission in a nega
tive manner, at least, ho resents
any assumption of Goneral Miles
superiority and asserts that ho is
as good, as old, land as experienced
as soldier us Genoral Miles.
Ho also criticises tho lattor's
attack on tho beof industry
as infamous. It is believed that
ho far iiH tho commission is con
corned tho incident is now closed.
Another witness was heard to
day in tho person of Colonel Gib
son, the distributing auent of tho
National Belief Commission at
Santiago, tin testified that ho
carried supplies to the sick thero
oq the ilecolute Ho had had
great difficulty in getting supplies
owing to the confusion. Genoral
Shatter had rofused him assist
ance and it was with great diffi
culty that ho was ablo to hire
horses. Ha succeeded in this
finally and with tho assistance of
Goneral AVheeler they wore carried
inland.
Inspecting tho quality of tho
beef furnished tho troops- Colonel
Gibson said tho canned corned
beef was bad unfit for uso and
should not havo been issued. It
was repulsive in appearance,
stringy and ho hirnsolf had boon
on able to eat it. The rcfrigorated
beef was likewiso bad, being cov
ered with a groen beard caused
by exposuro to tho sun. Tho
commission adjourned uutil to
morrow. And It Was Italnlnc
