Washington, February 21.
After a session of nearly eight
hours today tho Senato this oven
iug, at G:30 o'clock, passed tho
river and harbor bill by the de
cisive voto of 60 to 3. Tho moas
uro was under consideration
throughout tho day, nnd on sev
eral of the committoo amondments
a determined fight was made,
but in every instnnco tho opposi
tion availed nothing. v
Tho sharpest contest arose over
tho Nicaragua canal bill amend
ment. A point of order was raado
against it that it was general
legislation, but tho SonHto to
whioh the Vico-Prosident sub
mitted the point, overruled it. It
was thou attacked as not beiug
relevant to a river and harbor
measure, but this, too, was over
ruled by the Senate.
