and gun inventor is to Europe

tho United States. He is now in

Mechanism Controlling Torpedo.
Tho Nordon folt diffors from tho

effected by means of wires -which

Tho now Nordonfoldt runs un
dor tho wator submerged to a
depth of six feet. It is cigar

maximum diameter, 529 inchos;
total woight, charged for action.
6,200 pounds; explosive charge,
300 pounds, whioh can be in
creased to COO pounds. Insklo

propelling and stoaring apparatus

Tho motive power is supplied
by 120 storago cells, which do
volop sixtoen-horso power, giving
a ispeed of fourteen and a half
knots per hour. Tbo steering of
tho torpedo is effected by a rudder
manipulafed from tho shoro
through a throe-cornered cnblo
4,000 yards long. Not only can
the torpedo bo turned to tho right
or left as it speeds along, bat it
can bo stopped, roversod and run
back to tho starting point at full
speed. Actual runs of two miles
in length have been made with
tho Nordonfeldt torpedo at the
spoed of fourteen knots por hour.
It is loarnod that Mr. Nordon
feldt has undertaken to provide
tho United States with a torpedo
that will have a speed of sixteen
knots per hour.
