ula, under Hio puiilanco of Miss
Dudoit, visited Pnkhikai, a most
lovely place in the mountains
back of Wnialua. Faknikai is
noted as tho place whoro Kamolia
mohtt-Ai-Lunu, a descendant of
larachamoua tbo Grout, was
brought np, and tho latter part of
his name is obtninod from tbo fact
that tbo said Kamehumelm was
fed by bis Kabus (parents) on
taro leaves (luau) alone, for tbo
kabus did not wish to dive him
any fish on account of tbo booes.
Tho road of Pakiikni is quite hilly
and difficult of ascent, but with
good and reliable aides it could
lie reached easily, although horses
bavo to pas3 ovor steep ridges
more luau a thousand font high,
and a Blight slip of tbo horses
hoofs will throw tbo rider down
gulches ou cither side of ovor ono
thousand feet uopp. Tbo width
of the passage in somo places is
not over two foot, bonae nono but
reliable animals should bo used
for tbo trip. Tboeo ridges are no
place for prancing steeds.
At Pakaikai is fouud a largo
stone lying by the bank of tbo
stream, in which aro dug four
boles each eight inches in diamet
er and six inches deep. Tuoy aro
finely polishod inside. The holos
dug in this large stono aro olaimod

(apa awa) for liaiuennmoua-ni-Iu

stono implements by tbo ancients
during tbo stono age of Hawaii

proeent pouoration will dare und
ertako. Near by is another hole
dug in another rock and much
larRor nnd decpor than the four,
This last ono is said to bo tho ka

cleaned and purified, fit to drink.
The view around JL'ukaikai is ex

Hundred yards back of tbo

Mnlokaians claim that to see this
spot you see the wbolo of Molo-

Hina was said to bo n beautiful

in tbo cave to silently follow out

an art which tbo presout genera

below thiB cave and a little to the
windward is tbo spot whore the
runner and warrior Kaohelo was
slain by bi-i enemies, warriors
from Hawaii Kaohelo is said tobavo

loss of blood on this spot baok of
Ealuaabn churob. When Kao-
heledied his mothor was brutally
mutilated and roasted iu an imu
(midor ground oven), but was
uever eaten, for the Hawaiians
wero never cannibals. Molukai is
only a small island, but is full of
nolublo places which if fully ox
