TO BE THE KING OF CUBA
Cuban General Said to Have Aspirations
In That Line.
Thinks Tbat Monarch; Is Better for Cuba Than
a Rebubllc Establishment of
Havnnn, 2 July 2. Ono of tho
dissatisfied Cuban Generals, who
clniroe (o bo deecondod from tho
groat Emperor Obarlomuyne, is
incabnting a scheme to establish a
royalist parly in Havana, with tho
objoct. ultimately, of having him
self crowned king.
( "La Ltucha" will tomorrow pub

matter, which its conductors say
tlu'v havo boon investigating and
carefully guarding for several
weeks, owing to tho roticonoa of
those concerned and tho desire of
tho lattor to avoid a Dremature

has been a laud of many surprises.
Tho latest is tho ostablishinont of
a royalist party. Tho now organ

probably numbering fowor than
fifty members, but a well known
Cuban Genoral, who olaims to bo
a descendant of Charlemagne, is
reported to bo the hood of the
party and tho mooting plaoe is

Tho Cuban Gonoral in quostion
is said to bo dissatisfied with Am

Cuba noeds is not a republio, but
a strong hand at the helm, liko his
own. He is of tho opinion that the
ppoplo of tho Latiu race profor
royalty ana tno posaiblo honors
accruing under a monarchial re

is understood to deny that ho is
the head of a party with such ob

foot. Ho is tho ufiicor who was
recently reported to Governor
General Brooko for collecting 80
centimes from a Spanish mer
chant on tho ground that it waB

General Ludlow has boon made
aw are of tho Cuban Genoral's
successful attempts to collect
monoy from gambling bouses
under threats to use his influence
to have them closed if the propria
tors refused his demands. For
political reasons it has not been
considered advisable thus far to
proceed against him, but ho has
been warned to discontinue this
practises, and it is believed now
that ho is more intorested in mak
