Is the characteristic of Hood's Sarsapa

good results from a trial bottlo warrant

Now York, September 27. The
Shamrook was today safely dry
dookod at Erie Basin. Every pro
caution was taken to prevent mis
bap to thn biff cutter, and twenty
minutes after sho was warped in
to position over tbo twelve block
at tho bottom of the dock her
keel was resting securely in place.
Tht ro was no attempt to bide tho
lines of the yncht from view
Tho Shamrock lay alongside tho
partly burned steamer Eucaroa all
night, and early this morning' her
crew was put to work scraping off
tho green paint that covered her
top sides, oxposicg tho trno metal
underneath. Just what metal these
two upper streaks of plates are
composed of is a secret, but it
looks much like a competition of
aluminum and nickel, very light
and at the same time very strong.
At tho timo tho Shamrock's keel
touohed the blocks there were
about twelvo feot'of water from
blocks to the surface, which makes
hor draught about the same figure,
or an inch or two less. The crew
was at once put to work in two
squads scrubbing the hull with
brushes. ' '
Tho experts expected to see
something new and a radical de
parture from the old typo of Eng
lish cutter. The Shamrock can bo
described as a vessel with a Bri
tania body and a Defender fin and
lead, including the latter'a rook
keel, but with greater draught
than cither. There is nothing par
ticularly handsome about the cut
tor's lines, except that they aro all
curves, thoro being no straight
lines except from the turn of the
guard bjaids to tho lead.
In comparison with the Colum
bia, tbo Shamrock is fullor-bmfioci,
especially amidships, has about a
foot moro beam aud a draught
about ten inches greater. Her
overhangs are shorter, so that 'the
lines of hor are not so well
carried nut as in tho Columbis,
and, being -hor-, increase tho look
ot bulkiness. Then she is higher
sided than the cup defender.
Tho Shamrock curries more
sail than the Columbia, as hor
mast is stopped about two feet
farihor aft, giving her moro bond
sail, whilo the mainsail is also
larger tbnn the. cup defender's.
The Shamrock's amidahip sec
tions are continuous curves from
the deck lines to the turn of the
garboard. Her bilgo hardens
greatly at the qnarter just oppo
site to the Columbia's, and gives
one the impression that it will
retard her progress in sailing.
Amidships tbo Columbia has a
lino almost straight f:om tho bilgo
to garboard, giving her a ilntto.
