Tbo Supromo Court handed
down a decision yesterday in the
case- oE Horan vs. S. 13. Dolo et
al. The caso was submitted on
an agreed statement of facts Bomo
time ago. This etntoment ia as
Tbo plaintiff E. A. Horan, at
tuo unto of enactment of tbo .Land
Act, 1895, was the holder of a
leaso from tho Commissioner ot
Crown Lands of lot 281, contain
ine 57.25 acres, in tho Ahnpuaa of
Olaa, District of Pudo,, Island of
Hawaii; in 189G, under the pfovi
eions of Hart IX of the Land Act,
ho applied for tho said lot in foe,
representing tbat uo had 15 per
cent of tbo lot nnder cultivation
with coffee, fruit, fiold or card en
crops and had improvements of
bouso and extra cultivation tuoro
on of tho value of $200 in addition
to the said 15 per cent: tho Sub
Agont of Public Lands for the
district found tbat thero wore
about ton sores under cultivation
and tbat (bo house una of tho
valu of $150; tho application was
acebpted and in due timo a patent
was issued to Horan for tbo lot;
Horan has continued to livo on
tho lot to tbo present timo, and
cow has the entire area under
cultivation and has improvements
thereon valued at $2,400 and has
expended thereon $9,00; ho has
now applied for an additional 250
acres, namely, lots 107, 108 and
109, in the new Olaa survoy, but
his application has been denied
by the defendants. Ho con
tends that bo has a right under
said Part IX of the Land Act to
purchase theso additional lots at
their appraised value and asks
that tho defendants bo ordered to
issue him a patent for the same
on receipt of tho appraised value.

The remains of the late Minister of the
Interior, Captain James Anderson King,
will lie In state at the Executive Building
on Thursday, the 19th Instant, from ti
a. m. until 3 p. m:, and on Sunday, the
22nd Instant, from 11 a. m. until 2 p. m.
The funeral ceremonies will take place
on Sunday, the 22nd Instant, at 3 p. m.-,
under the auspices of the Masonic Fra
ternity. Persons desiring to contribute flowers

tive Building before 10 o'clock on Thurs
