and charged right mid left, pouring

Forty Filipinos wcro captured, mostly

from the bombardment. Tho town was
well fortified. Tho sand dunes were
riveted with bamboo twenty feet thlclc
which afforded a fine cover.
When the transports arrived In tho
gulf they found tho gunboats Prlnco

After consultation with General Whca

Bennington anchored two miles off

tho gunboats poured tho full force of
their batteries into the trenches, coon
forcing the Insurgents to flco through
tho burrows dug back of tho trenches.
Aoout j0 men held their places until
tho keels of tho boats grated on the
shore, when tho Mnuscr bullets com

The battalions formed in good or

Patton's company, pursued tho insur

thickets. On the right was a frail foot
brldgo across the river, leading to tho
town. General Whcaton, personally
commanding, ordered a chargo across
tho bridge, and Captain Howlnnd of his
staff led Coleman's nnd Elliott's com
