JMerchiints Offer Objections
At a meeting of tho Hoard of Health
yesterday afternoon vnrlous merchants
present offered objections to tho nttl
tudo of Sheriff Andrews of Hawaii In
tho matter of tho quarantlno of vessels
from Honolulu to Hawaii ports.
T. Cllvo Davlcs read n letter signed
by members of o commltteu In tho Dis
trict of Hamakuu, protesting against
tho action of Sheriff Andrews. In
cluded In this body wero four doctors
of tho districts. Tho committco was
perfectly willing to abldo by any regu

stitute nnd asked that they bo appoint
ed n sub-commltteo of the Hoard to
decido on what should bo dono with
nny vessels with proper permits nr

uiu not care to bo subjected to the radi
cal measures instituted by Sheriff An
drews such ns mnklng it necessary for
vessels to proceed to llllo, thero to ho
fumigated before returning to nny oth
er Hawnll port for which they might
bo destined. V. A. Sehaofcr then read
a letter of tho same tenor nnd nil tho
business men present agreed that
Sheriff Andrews' regulations wero too
radical.
It wns brought out In tho discussion
that tho pcoplo of tho big Island wero
not In favor of tho measures taken by
tho sheriff.
President Wood stnted that Minis
ter Cooper had already written a let
ter of Instructions to Sheriff Andrews
which might havo tho effect of chang
ing tho attitude of tho latter.
Having registered their kick, tho
merchnnts left tho matter to simmer
In tho hands of tho Hoard of Health
and took their leave.
It seemed to bo tho opinion of the
Hoard that Mr. Andrews was going a
llttlo too far.
