As Emma Nixon, U. P. Tenncy now
of Honolulu, knew thin world famous
woman and during her attendance at
Mills Seminary acted as tho young
lady's guardian. Mr. Tenncy was an
old time friend of Dr. Nixon, the girl's
lather. When Emma left homo to co
to tho Seminary, Nixon wrote Mr. Ten
ney, then living In San Francisco, to
have an eyo out for tho comfort of his
daughter and do what ho could for her
pleasure when not engaged In school
"I remember tho first tlmo she camo
to tho city," Bald Mr. Tenney. "Emma
asked mo to take her to a candy fac
tory. Sho wanted to boo If they made
candy tho same way sho did at home.
Sho was a bright little country girl of
sixteen. Sho had uavcr been In a city
before, and nearly ovory Saturday sho
