ELIjCTRIC ROAD FOR HAWAII.
San Francisco, Jan. 19. L. P. Mat
thews, of Cleveland, Ohio, who arrived
from Hawaii several weeks ago, and
has been visiting different parts of the
Stato slnco that time, left for Cleveland
yesterday. Mr. Matthows said yester
day that ho Is connected with an East
ern syndicate, which will construct a
number of electric railroad llnea In
Hawaii this year at an outlay of f I,
000,000 or $5,000,000.
"The Islands," Mr. Matthews ex
plained, "nro to have a veritable rail
road boom. Iu thu nenr future moro
than n million dollars worth of tics
and lumber will be shipped from Pugct
Sound points to Hawaii for the pro
jected roads. Plans nlrcady perfected
call for tho construction of somo 310
