TUB HURCIIIN80N REPORT.
Snn Francisco, May 9. President
Duck reported nt the annual meeting
of tho Hutchinson Sugar Plnntntlon
Company yesterday that tho past
fiscal year, ended on March Slst, had
been an exceedingly dry one. In fact,
less r;il 11 hnd fnllon than during nny
year slnco the Incorporation ot the
company. Tho total rnltiftill was only
29.10 Inches, as ngnlust 30.41 for 1S98
nnd 55 Inches for 1897. Continuing, tho
said: "Notwithstanding tin drought,
your malinger has succeeded In get
ting off, up to March 31, 1900, the end
of tho fiscal year, G959 tons of sugar,
against his estimate, made n year ago,
of 7000 tons. This shortngc of crop,
sonio Gil tons, was caused simply from
lack ot water for flaming and condens
ing purposes, nnd had tho rains comi
cs In former years tho crop season
Just closed would have cxcco.Icd 8,000
tons. Tho cane Is on the field, and the
apparent shortage this year will be In
cluded In next year's crop, as you will
see by the manger's cstlmalo of S.500
tons. I will call your attention to the
debit balance of prollt and less account
for the years work, amounting to $31,-
008.01. This Is accounted for as fol
lows: Somo 150 acres of eano was ripe
and ready for harvest, nnd should have
been taken oft during tho fiscal yea.'
Just closed, nnd tho product, some 700
tons of sugar, should hnve been In
cluded In Inst year's repot t; It could
not bo done on account of lack of wa
ter, as explained1 nbovo. During tho
past fiscal year your directors have
paid dividends amounting to $300,000,
nnd have expended over ? 75.000 In per
manent Improvements, nnd still carry
over n balance of $19,100.20. The out
lay for the fiscal year of 1000 will con
sist practically of tho ordinary running
expenses, as no permanent Improve
ments of nny extent arc contemplated,
unless It Is your wish that pumping
plants should be put In."
In tho manager's report, made on
April 19th, slnco March 27th tho water
had conic up In the new flumes and
that tho plantation had ground 700 tons
of sugar since April 1st. Tho financial
statement showed 1315 tons of sugar to
hnvo been nfloat on March 31st, of tho
estimated value of $9S,1S3, which will
permit tho uninterrupted payment of
dividends.
The use ot tho Singer In millions of
homes shows tho tnprcccdcnt'vl suc
