fect tho provisions of the Act of April
30, 1900, rending ns follows:

established nt such places In tho Tcr
rltory of Hawaii ns the supervising
Surgeon General of tho Marine Hospi
tal Service of tho United States shall
direct, and tho qunrnntlno regulations
for said Islands relating to tho Impor
tation of diseases from other countries
shall be under tho control of tho Gov
ernment of tho United States, etc."
This Is understood to place tho qunr
nntlno service In tho Territory of Ha
waii on tiio nump lmsfs tin tno national
qunrnntlno service In tho Uniicu mu.
which will mnko It necessary to have

tho maintenance of said service.
Officers of tho Marine Hospital Ser
vice nro now on duty nt Honolulu and
It will bo necessary to establish sta
tions nt tho ports of Hllo and Kahulul.
respectively. It will bo necessary to
build floating disinfecting plants for
tho polls of Honolulu and Hllo, re
spectively, and to equip tho part of
Knhulul ns nn Inspection station. Care
ful estimates show that tho equipment
and running expenses of the station
at Honolulu will amount to 77,380 dol
lars for tho first year for equipment
and running expenses of tho stntion
at Hllo will amount to $41,038 for the
first year; equipment and running ex
penses for the port of Kahulul will
amount to. $5,050, for tho first year,
making a grand total of $123,408.
To carry on tho running expenses of
tho service from Juno 15 to 30 when
tho new law goes Into effect tho Secre
tary requests an appropriation of $5,
000. For quarantine expenses for tho fis
cal year ending Juno 30, 1901, tho sum
of $125,000 Is asked.

through the Heard of Health fivo differ

natown, which upon examination of
tho authorities wcro considered spor

Association to cooperate with the
Hoard of Health In taking precaution
