HEALTH BOARD MEETING
Two ncHfllonn of tho Hoard of Health
were held yesterday. At the afternoon
scRSlon Dr. Wood, president, produced
tho correspondence relating to buhonlc
plaguo at San Francisco and gave hit
own views on the matter. Tho action
taken was a ratification of what Dr.
Wood hod already ordered with the Ap
proval of the Executive Council.
Regarding tho alternatlvo given of
fumigating the cargo of the steamer
Australia or taking It back to San
Francisco, Dr. Wood opposed delaying
procedure until tho Federal authori
ties take chargo of quarantine on the
14th Inst. Hawaii had about week
of Independent existence and the
Board should endeavor to turn over the
port clean to tho Federal officers.
W. O. Smith was present and gave
Information about fumigating appara
tus In New York. Tho meeting agreed
that caro should bo taken In dealing
with all vessels from San Francisco.
At tho evening session reports were
given of sanitary work In the city. The
claim of Mr. Kegnelly, an English
tourist, for personal effects lost In fu
migation, was not entertained.

brother of Dr. W. F. Jones of San Ita
facl, was drowned here late Saturday.

resembles silk in lustre and strength; it is made from a vege
table fibre, and consequently washes, laundering perfectly;
it does not readily crumple or muss, but once rumpled it is
readily pressed so that t looks as good again as new. In
spite of its extremj thinness, its strength is remarkable. It
