San Francisco, July 7. Vessels coming
here from Honolulu or any Hawaiian port

crafts touching there, coming from Aus
tralia and China, liaxe to be dealt with as
strictly as If they had never been at Ha
waii. The reason of This, accordinjrto
Quarantine Officer Klnyoun, Is because the
authorities at Washington have so ordered.

Steamship a Mystery.
San Francisco, July 5. The Callfornlan,
the 8000 ton steamer just completed at the
Union Iron Works for the Amerl.an-Ha-wallan
Steamship Company, Is a mystery
to the knowing ones in part. She has
been charterrd by John Rosenfeld's Sons,
but her destination has thus far battled In
quiry. She is lying In th: stream, and to
day began taking In coal, it was at first
said that the vessel was going to carry
c.al from Nanaimo to this port, but the
guess was an error. Now there Is a rumor
abroad that the big freighter will take a
cargo of wheat to Europe. It Is also said
that negotiations with the Government
are pending with a view of sending the
Calltornlan to China.

ship Adams, which has been lying off
Goat Island since her return from Astoria
a few days ago, will g to Mare Island
Monday to tike on provisions and prepare
foranoher cruise with apprentices. The
trip recently completed proved to be very
satisfactory 'to all concerned, the appren
tices showing appltude for their work,
with a few exceptions, and 120 out of 147

boys to gu on the next cruise have been
stationed on Goat Island.

of the vessels at Nome was received from
Seatt'e yesterday by the Merclunt,' Ex
change, the steamer San Bias having ar
rived at the Puget SounJ port yesterday
morning. On June 21st there were In
port at Nome tht St. Paul, Senator, Oregon,
San Jose, San Puere, Nome City, Lakme,
Albion, Tacomi, Olympla, Centennial,
South Portland, Athenian, Ellliu Thomp
son, Alliance, Valencia, 'Aloha, Thrasher,
Thomas F Bayard, Falcon, Fisher Broth
ers, Leslie D., Martha W. Tuft, Seward,
W, G, Irwin and Sever) Sisters. On June
25 the Humboldt, Roanoke and St. Paul
sailed from Nome for St. Michael. The
San Juan was reported spoken 120 miles
smith of Nome. The bark M-rcurv wa
said to be on the bsach. The Ohm and
