Commerce wns held yesterday aflet
noon to consider the sending of re
lief to the Galveston sufferers.

Swanzy, W. M. Olffnrd, J. V. Morgan,
C. SI. Cooke, Robert Lcwers, SI. Louis-
son nnd II. E. Wnlty.
C. SI. Cooke moved that a commit
tee of three be nppolnted to solicit con
tributions. The motion carried and the president
nppolnted as the committee Slessrs. J
II. Atherton, chnlrmnn, Paul Isenberg
nnd Robt. Lewers.
Sir. Atherton raised the question as
to the amount to be rnlsed.
The president said San Francisco had
given $20,000.
Sir. Sehaefer thought It not advisable
to fix the amount. Let every subscrib
er use- his own Judgment as to the pro
portion of his subscription.
The committee- held n meeting Im
mediately after the Chamber adjourned.
Sir. Atherton told the reporters present
that subscriptions would be received
nt the four banks, amounts from .10
cents to $5000 being acceptable.
