The London Dally Mall In a recent
There nata time when the word Chi
na was synonymous with tea; yet for
many years the consumption of Chlnrae
tea In England has been steadily on
the decrease. In I8C9 China prartl
cil'v monopolized tho tea trade of the
world. During this same year the
United Kingdom consumed over 70,000,
000 pounds of tea.
Tin year slater. In 18G9, China had
Increased her sales to us by nearly
25,000,000 pounds, but India had then
sprung up ns a rival and Imported 10,
71C.000 pounds of tea Into Great llrit
a'.n In 1879 we find that the Imports from
Cnlna and from India had each ln
ci eased by 25,000,000 pounds, but It is
between that jcur and 1889 that tho
moat remarkable changes took place.
Instead of selling us 120,340,000
pounds of tea as In 1879, China In 18S9
only sent us 61,100,000 pounds .while
India actually added almost that quan
tity to her previous sales.
Ihe Importation ot Ceylon tea Into
Great Drltnln only commenced serious
ly In 1884; but flvo ears later we find
her Importing 28,500,000 pounds.
Last J car, the consumption ot Chi-
ncie tea In Great Britain had sunk to
nn Insignificant 17,000,000 poundi',
while Ce)lon alone Imported nearly
flwi times that quantity; India during
tho same period actually beating her
own splendid record by sending us 134,
We may well as kwhat will be the
figure for 1900.

White Teeth I
are generally perfect and sound,
and at all events are a much
prettiet feature of the mouth
than dirty and discolored teeth.
Then again when kept clean
