BAD TELEPHONE SYSTEM.
During the last week a largo number
of people hnvo expressed their determi
nation to have their telephones taken
out, so poor has been the service, nud
jesterday afternoon, a family on Well
ards street took nctho measures.
Thero Is no doubt whatever that tho
system Is about ns poor as it has ever
been. A person may stand at his tele
phono for nn hour and not get a con
nection. People nro becoming tired of
It and some are thinking of calling u
meeting of citizens with a view of hav
ing Honolulu people tako out their
telephones. For the greater part of
tho time tho Instruments nro worse
than useless. This same opinion may
be heard on nil sides. Whether tho
fault Is with tho operators or tho sys
tem Itself, Is immaterial.
One of tho head men of the telephone
company was heard to say this morn
ing that the Insulation wns all oft tlw
wires and that It would tako nt leaat
