Manu, a native sailor of the steamer
James Makee, appeared In the l'ollco
Court this forenoon on the charge of
assault with a weapon on Kaolmea, an
other sailor of the same vessel. Defen
dant waived examination and was com
mitted to the Circuit Court for trial.
The story goes that on Tuesdry
night, the two men got Into a quarrel
aboard their ship and Manu, drawing a
knife, cut Kaomea. Manu declares thut
his action was in Belt defense, Kaomea
having been the first to start the trou
ble. The Kennebec wants to get away
with a Japanese crew and is following
