Into Five Counties, Namely:
Kauai, Maul, Oak, Hilo
County government was considered
last night by the Independent Charter
Commission. The report of tho com
mittee ns presented by W. Knlng, Its
chairman. Tho Instrument was read
section by section and, although Bharp
debate broke out at places, good hend
way was made.
The commission decided to divide the
Hawaiian Islands Into Ave counties.
Tho Islands of Knunt nml Nllhau and
all Islands within three nautical miles
of their shores, will bo known s the
County of Kauai. The Island of Oaliu
and nil Islands at sea In the above lim
its to bo Known na the Coum; of Oahu.
The Canity of Maul Includes tho Isl
and of Maul. Mnloknl Lnmil. ami Ka-
hootnwe and all Islands within three

cludes the districts of Hilo, Puna ind

Under general provisions, the bill
provides that each county shall lie a
corporate body with nil the powers In
cident to Incorporated bodies. Thrso
powers nrc lested In n board of three
county commissioners and all suits
shall bo brought In the namo of this
board except where authority Is grant
ed by them to some other county otH
clal. In suits against the county, ser
vice may be accepted by the county
clerk, his deputy or any member of the
board of commissioners. When such

notify the county attorney.

named Aknnn was found dead In his
quarters at Wnlkaiu las'. Monday
morning. Akna had been working for
tho Walluku plantation until two
weeks prior to his death when ho gavo
up work on nccount of Illness from con
sumption. Dr. J. Wcddlck cxnmlned
tho corpse nt the premises, nnd In his
opinion tho deceased had been dead
some twelve hours when his body was
discovered. Akann was alone when he
died, nnd wns preparing his food when
tho last attack of his old malady seiz
ed him. The doctor granted tho burial
certificate, as thero were no strnngo
circumstances attending the death.
Sheriff Baldwin considered that no In
quest was necessary.
