gold piece placed there when tho mast
was stepped was sccurod by Foreman
Harvey of tho firm doing the work, af
ter quite a scramble. The bark Olympic
was built In the East and there it Is
the custom to place a coin under the
heel ot each mast as It Is stepped.

Pilot Freeman was given a great
send-off on the steamer this morning.
The old man had many friends hero
and they all tried to give blm a good
time during his stay. A large number
of people were at the steamer among
them many of Freeman's friends. Ho

Captain Green Kicked.
JiiBt before the Hongkong Maru sail
ed this morning, two Japanese who
were captured last night swimming In

did not belong to the steamer and had
not been brought hero by her. The njen
claimed that they had come from the'
steumer, however, and so, rather than
have his essel detained, the captain
