Had there been a race between tho

not feel nearly so bad as ..they did
when they arrived here Wolnesdny.nnd

ment that the ship Is confined to the
consumption of 75 tons of coal a day
until Yokohama Is reached. From that
port to Hongkong and return tho speed
of the vessel Is Increased to between
sixteen and seventeen knots nn hour,
This Is due to the tact that running
between the two Oriental ports thn
China Is brought Into competition with
fast boats, and must keep up with tho
procession to hold her trade.
The men on the China aro looking
forward very kindly to the proposed
change In the management of tho Pa

pating that If tho change docs take
place tho China and the new boats of
the company, will he run to compete
In speed with tho Oceanic steamers to
this port, nnd the new lino from Seat
tle to tho Orient. The China will then
be able to regain her placo as the
crack boat of the Pacific nnd get out of
the Kllhu Thompson nnd Albion clasf
of steamers Into which a too conserva
tive management has forced her.
