STATUS OF LAVA ROCK
New York, May 9. A decision has
been mndo by the board ot clnsstflca
tlon ot the United States general ap

a duty of fifty per cent advalorcm un

WILDER AND RODERICK DHU.
San Francisco, May 9. Two of the
fastest vesels In the sugir fleet are now
nclng to the Hawaihn Islands. When
the tugs cast them off at the nine fathom

the tug Reliance moved cut with the
Wilder In tow an 1 proceeded to sea. Both
tvwboits cast off their tows about the
same time, and five minutes later both
the "wlnd-immers" had laid their courses
for the lsland. Long before the tugs let
go both vss-lslnl considerable canvas
set and It did not take long to pack on the
res of th: sail. Ciptilns Johnson and
Jackson have wagereJa dinner on the race
and there Is considerable speculation on the
result. This Is the best season of the year
for fast time, anJ as both vessels are clip
