There Is more sugar In bags and coal
In bulk In the Hawaiian Inlands at tho
present tlmo than ever before lu the
history of tho place. Tho sugar Is
piling up at the rate ot several thou
sand bags a day and the steamers are
having hard work to keep It moving.
On the Island of Hawaii there Is a glut
and Maul and Kauai are loaded with
tho products of the plantations ready
for shipment. On this Island there are
nearly a quarter of a million sacks of
sugar ready for market. All the store-'
bouses are crowded and many of the
warehouses that heretofore have not
taken sugar are filled, at the railroad
wharf alone thcro aro over 200,000 bags
waiting shipment. Most of this or at
least 120,000 bags will be taken away
by the Hawaiian when she leaves for
San Francisco on Saturday or Sunday.
The other vessels In the harbor will
bo loaded and dlsratched as aoon as
possible, The weather has had a great
deal to do with the accumulation ot the
suprr as vessels that havo been nwny
from here for a long time should have
arrived from the Coast before now.
fourteen sugar ships arrived In San
Francisco In two bunches wltnln a
week and as a result of this the veS'
els on the Coast are being sent here
With halt loads to get them here to help
out. Tho Gerard C. Tobcy came down
about half loaded from San Francisco
and the others will come the sam
way although there Is n great deal ot
freight waiting In San Franclaco for
The samo weather which mado the
blps late has cheapened coal and
mado It a drug on the local market.
Tho great rains of the past season
hnvo saved a great deal of tho pump
ing on the different plantations so tho
coal has been unused. Tho ship Para
mlta now here with a cargo ot coal can
not And a purchaser for It A great
deal ot coal Is on the way here from
the Colonies on consignment and on ar
rival will lower tho price a great deal
more. Coal was never so cheap here as
It Is at the present tlmo and there aro
chances that It will go a great deal
With the Immense quantity now on
hand and tho many thousand tons on
the way from the Sound nnd Newcastle
there Is liable to be a hunt- for space
to put the cargoes on arrival. There
are about half a million tons ot Rnslyn
coal due here within the next year and
a half and half that amount of New
castle coal Is now ordered and a good
deal of It Is on the way.
